Description
The Ingersoll Rand 150BMPE88R54-200 is a genuine IR 150BM-series vane pre-engaged air starter. It delivers up to 32 hp (24 kW) and 155 ft-lb of breakaway torque at 150 psi, and Ingersoll Rand recommends it for diesel engines from 8 to 27 liters. It uses the code 88 pre-engaged drive housing on an SAE No. 3 flange and drives a right-hand 11-tooth 6/8 pitch pinion. Ingersoll Rand supersedes current 150BM models with its 150T "F" turbine starters by changing the B to a T and the E to an F, so the 150TMPF88R54-200 is the turbine equivalent.

Why Choose the 150BMPE88R54?
- High torque from a vane motor. Strong breakaway torque for mid-size diesels.
- Pre-engaged drive. The pinion is fully in mesh before cranking begins, which reduces ring gear wear.
- No sparks, no batteries. Suited to marine, oil and gas, and hazardous-area service.
- Clocks to fit your engine. 4 inlet x 4 exhaust x 18 drive-housing positions, field serviceable.
- A proven design. Ingersoll Rand's 150BM is the benchmark mid-range vane starter.
150BMPE88R54-200 FAQ
What is the opposite-rotation version of the 150BMPE88R54-200?
The 150BMPE88L54-11A is the opposite-rotation counterpart. Power, flange and gearing are the same; only the rotation and the matching pinion code differ. Match the rotation printed on your existing starter's nameplate.
What replaces this starter?
Ingersoll Rand supersedes current 150BM models with its 150T "F" turbine starters by changing the B to a T and the E to an F, so the 150TMPF88R54-200 is the turbine equivalent.
Can it run on natural gas?
No. The 150BMP is built for compressed air. For natural gas, use a gas-sealed model such as the 150BMG, or a 150T "F" turbine, which is sealed for gas and air.
Can it crank for a long time?
Ingersoll Rand does not rate this starter for extended cranking (more than 10 seconds). For hard-starting engines or long crank cycles, choose a larger starter or a turbine model.
What air supply and accessories does it need?
Provide a 90 to 150 psi supply through a 1-1/4 in. line, with enough receiver volume to deliver up to 680 scfm while the engine cranks. Ingersoll Rand's matching accessories include SRV125, SRV125T relay valves, the NL-24-8 lubricator, 150BM-A674 muffler, and 150BMP-1051B / 150BMP-2451B solenoid valves.
What does the suffix at the end mean?
The 200 suffix is the orientation code. It sets how the inlet, exhaust and drive housing are positioned, not whether the starter fits. If you are replacing an existing starter, match the full number on its nameplate.

Ingersoll Rand pneumatic air starters can replace any factory mounted starter engine and simultaneously offer a variety of helpful benefits. Compared to conventional electric starters, a pneumatic air starter occupies considerably less space as it is run by air. Pneumatic air starters are also considered safer in hazardous environments as they do not produce electrical sparks like electric starters sometimes do, thus eliminating the risk of igniting flammable materials that may be present.
Ingersoll Rand air starters have significantly more torque than electric starters of equivalent size, and that allows even a small air starter to start very large engines and turbines. In addition, electric starters as well as their wiring may become excessively hot in the event that it takes longer than expected to start the engine, while air-starters can be run for as long as their air supply lasts. Turbine starters provide even more torque and tend to be simpler, and therefore are a natural fit for turbine engines. Turbine air starters are utilized extensively on large turbofan engines commercial and military aircraft; as well as marine ships and vessels, trains, heavy construction equipment, and more.
