| 25 | Pinion: 11-tooth 6/8 pitch |
Why Choose the SS825GC03R25?
- Powerful and rugged. A 75 hp vane motor in the large-frame SS800 design that Ingersoll Rand calls the standard by which other starters are measured.
- Pre-engaged drive. The pinion is fully in mesh before cranking begins, which reduces ring gear wear on heavy engines.
- Runs on air or natural gas. Every SS800 model is gas sealed.
- No sparks, no batteries. A pneumatic starter has no electrical arcing and does not lose power to cold batteries, so it suits marine, oil and gas, mining and standby power service.
- Flexible mounting. The 4 inlet x 4 exhaust x 16 drive-housing orientations let one starter fit many engine layouts, and the starter is field serviceable.
SS825GC03R25 FAQ
What is the opposite-rotation version of the SS825GC03R25?
The SS825GC03L26 is the opposite-rotation counterpart. Power, flange and gearing are the same; only the rotation and the matching pinion code differ. Match the rotation printed on your existing starter's nameplate.
What is the difference between the SS810, SS815, SS825 and SS850?
All four use the same 75 hp SS800 vane motor. The SS810 is an inertia starter; the SS815, SS825 and SS850 are pre-engaged. Gearing sets the engine size: SS810 and SS815 use B gearing (diesel 16 to 130 L), the SS825 uses C gearing (80 to 200 L) and the SS850 uses D gearing (160 to 320 L). Compare the full SS800 series.
Can it run on natural gas?
Yes. The "G" in the model number means the starter is gas sealed. When running on gas, pipe the exhaust away to a safe location as required by your site's codes.
Can it crank for a long time?
Ingersoll Rand does not rate this starter for extended cranking (more than 10 seconds). For hard-starting engines or long crank cycles, step up to a larger SS800 model or choose a turbine such as the ST1000 series.
What air supply and accessories does it need?
Provide a 90 to 150 psi supply through a 1-1/2 in. line, with enough receiver volume to deliver up to 1,700 scfm while the engine cranks. Ingersoll Rand's matching accessories include SRV125 or SRV125T relay valve, ST900-267-24 strainer, 150BMP-1051B (12 V) or 150BMP-2451B (24 V) solenoid valve, SS800-A674 muffler.

Ingersoll Rand pneumatic air starters can replace any factory mounted starter engine and simultaneously offer a variety of helpful benefits. Compared to conventional electric starters, a pneumatic air starter occupies considerably less space as it is run by air. Pneumatic air starters are also considered safer in hazardous environments as they do not produce electrical sparks like electric starters sometimes do, thus eliminating the risk of igniting flammable materials that may be present.
Ingersoll Rand air starters have significantly more torque than electric starters of equivalent size, and that allows even a small air starter to start very large engines and turbines. In addition, electric starters as well as their wiring may become excessively hot in the event that it takes longer than expected to start the engine, while air-starters can be run for as long as their air supply lasts. Turbine starters provide even more torque and tend to be simpler, and therefore are a natural fit for turbine engines. Turbine air starters are utilized extensively on large turbofan engines commercial and military aircraft; as well as marine ships and vessels, trains, heavy construction equipment, and more.
