Description

The Ingersoll Rand ST155FP81R071-22O is a genuine IR ST150-series pre-engaged turbine air starter. It is a lube-free solid-aluminum turbine starter that delivers up to 47 hp (35 kW) and 240 ft-lb (325 N·m) of breakaway torque at 150 psi. Ingersoll Rand built the ST150 for heavy-duty diesel and gas engines in the 11 to 90 liter size. This ST155 is the half-arc version for 60 to 150 psi supplies. It uses the code 81 drive housing on an SAE No. 3 flange and drives a right-hand code 071 pinion. The ST150 is the current successor to the 150T "F" series.

ST155FP81R071 Orientations and Builds

This starter is also listed in these orientations and configurations. The motor, gearing, flange and pinion are the same; the suffix sets the inlet, exhaust and drive-housing positions or marks a special build: ST155FP81R071-22P.

Why Choose the ST155FP81R071?

  • 47 hp in a compact turbine. A patented slip-fit turbine with a high-speed rotor that Ingersoll Rand says is built to resist deflection.

  • Rugged planetary gearing that allows extended crank cycles.

  • Easy to service. The patented slip-fit turbine design lets you remove the rotor and change from low-pressure to high-pressure operation in a matter of minutes.

  • Lube-free. No lubricator and no oil mist.

  • Sealed for gas and air.

ST155FP81R071-22O FAQ

What is the difference between the ST155 and ST159?

The ST155 is a half-arc turbine for 60 to 150 psi supplies (47 hp at 150 psi). The ST159 is a full-arc turbine for 30 to 120 psi supplies (47 hp at 120 psi). Choose by the pressure you can deliver at the starter.

Does the ST150 replace the 150T "F"?

Yes. Ingersoll Rand's supersession list moves 150TMPF88/81 models to ST155FP88/81 models with the same suffix, and 150TLPF models to ST159FP models. The ST150 keeps the 150 drive-housing and pinion coding.

Can it crank for a long time?

Yes. IR highlights the ST150's rugged planetary gearing as allowing extended crank cycles.

Ingersoll Rand pneumatic air starters can replace any factory mounted starter engine and simultaneously offer a variety of helpful benefits. Compared to conventional electric starters, a pneumatic air starter occupies considerably less space as it is run by air. Pneumatic air starters are also considered safer in hazardous environments as they do not produce electrical sparks like electric starters sometimes do, thus eliminating the risk of igniting flammable materials that may be present.

Ingersoll Rand air starters have significantly more torque than electric starters of equivalent size, and that allows even a small air starter to start very large engines and turbines. In addition, electric starters as well as their wiring may become excessively hot in the event that it takes longer than expected to start the engine, while air-starters can be run for as long as their air supply lasts. Turbine starters provide even more torque and tend to be simpler, and therefore are a natural fit for turbine engines. Turbine air starters are utilized extensively on large turbofan engines commercial and military aircraft; as well as marine ships and vessels, trains, heavy construction equipment, and more.
