Description

The Ingersoll Rand ST455C03R832 is a genuine IR ST400-series turbine air starter. It delivers up to 23 hp and 185 ft-lb of breakaway torque at 120 psi. It mounts on an SAE No. 3 flange, turns right-hand through a code 832 pinion, and takes air through an SAE split-flange inlet. Its turbine motor needs no lubrication. Ingersoll Rand's ST400 series covers diesel engines from 5 to 60 liters in power generation, marine, rail and transportation service.

Why Choose the ST455C03R832?

  • Lube-free turbine. No lubricator to fill and no oil mist in the exhaust.

  • One-hose hookup. A single air connection simplifies piping.

  • Compact and light. In-line design that is easy to install.

  • Flexible mounting. The removable flange rotates 360° for mounting flexibility.

  • Maintenance free. Sealed oil-bath lubrication for the gears and bearings.

ST455C03R832 FAQ

What is the opposite-rotation version of the ST455C03R832?

The ST455C03L94 is the opposite-rotation counterpart. Power, flange and gearing are the same; only the rotation and the matching pinion code differ. Match the rotation printed on your existing starter's nameplate.

Which ST400-series model do I need: ST400, ST455 or ST499?

They share the same housing and mounting. They differ in turbine arc, which sets the pressure they are built for: the ST400 (44% arc) for 90 to 150 psi, the ST455 (55% arc) up to 120 psi, and the ST499 (full arc) up to 90 psi. Never run a starter above the maximum pressure stamped on its nameplate.

Does the ST400 need lubrication?

No. The turbine motor needs no external lubrication, and the gears and bearings run in a sealed oil bath.

Can it crank for a long time?

Ingersoll Rand does not rate this starter for extended cranking (more than 10 seconds). For hard-starting engines or long crank cycles, choose a larger turbine such as the ST600.

What air supply and accessories does it need?

Provide a 60 to 120 psi supply, with enough receiver volume to deliver up to 780 scfm while the engine cranks. Ingersoll Rand's matching accessories include the ST900-267-24 1-1/2 in. strainer (300 mesh), SRV125 relay valve, 150BMP-1051B / 150BMP-2451B solenoid valves, SMB-618 push-button valve and the ST400-A339M manual control valve.

Ingersoll Rand pneumatic air starters can replace any factory mounted starter engine and simultaneously offer a variety of helpful benefits. Compared to conventional electric starters, a pneumatic air starter occupies considerably less space as it is run by air. Pneumatic air starters are also considered safer in hazardous environments as they do not produce electrical sparks like electric starters sometimes do, thus eliminating the risk of igniting flammable materials that may be present.

Ingersoll Rand air starters have significantly more torque than electric starters of equivalent size, and that allows even a small air starter to start very large engines and turbines. In addition, electric starters as well as their wiring may become excessively hot in the event that it takes longer than expected to start the engine, while air-starters can be run for as long as their air supply lasts. Turbine starters provide even more torque and tend to be simpler, and therefore are a natural fit for turbine engines. Turbine air starters are utilized extensively on large turbofan engines commercial and military aircraft; as well as marine ships and vessels, trains, heavy construction equipment, and more.
