Placing the kit components (Overview)

  1. Fix the air tank brackets to a rigid frame in a sheltered spot as near the starter as practical.
  2. Turn the tank so all air connections are at or above its centerline and the drain points straight down.
  3. Connect the relay valve and the check/relief valve to the tank with a short pipe nipple.
  4. Put the control valve within reach of the operator and the pressure gauge within the operator's view.
  5. Place the gladhand coupling where it is easy to reach for charging the system from an outside air source.
  6. Fit the HDL1 lubricator on or close to the starter and thread the muffler into the starter exhaust, or mount it remotely with radiator hose.

An outline only. Follow the full procedure, torque values and safety warnings in the document (from page 4).

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in the 150BMP-K50-1 installation kit?

A pipe fitting kit, air hose kit, relay valve, control valve, check/relief valve, check valve, muffler, gladhand coupling, pressure gauge, lubricator and sealant.

Does the 150BMP-K50-1 kit include an air tank?

No. The tank and brackets are sourced locally; a 55-gallon steel tank meeting SAE J10b is recommended, and aluminum tanks or welding brackets to the tank are not recommended.

How should the HDL1 lubricator be fed on a diesel engine?

Tap the oil supply line into a fuel line on the non-pressurized side of the fuel pump, at a point above the starter so fuel reaches the lubricator by gravity.

What hose sizes are used in the 150BMP-K50-1 kit?

Dash -4, -6 and -20 hoses, about 1/4 in, 3/8 in and 1-1/4 in inside diameter.
