Ingersoll Rand Engine Starting Systems Catalog: Air Starter Selection Guide, Series Data and Accessories (Form ASM-0304-010)
A complete 2004 Ingersoll Rand Engine Starting Systems catalog that opens with a one-page air starter selection guide matching engine displacement to starter series, split into lubrication-free turbine motors and vane motors that need external lubrication. Lettered sections A through I then cover each starter family (150T F, ST500, ST600, ST700/ST900, 3BMG/5BMG, SS175/SS350, 150BM, SS800 and TS700/TS900/TS1400 gas turbine starters) with features, dimensions, performance curves in table form, starts-per-tank charts, crossover model numbers, model coding, engine selection charts and tune-up or seal kits. Section J details system accessories such as relay valves, solenoid and push button valves, strainers, mufflers, regulators, lubricators and gauges. It is aimed at engineers, mechanics and buyers sizing, replacing or servicing an air starting system.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a pre-engaged and an inertia air starter?
The catalog explains that a pre-engaged starter fully meshes its pinion with the ring gear before cranking begins, while an inertia starter's spinning pinion engages the ring gear at the same moment cranking starts.
Which Ingersoll Rand air starters run without external lubrication?
The turbine motor families in the selection guide (150T, ST500, ST600, ST700/ST900 and the TS gas turbine starters) are listed as lubrication free. The vane motor families (3BMG/5BMG, SS175/SS350, 150BM and SS800) are listed as needing external lubrication.
How do I convert a 150BM model number to the 150T "F" equivalent?
For current 150BM models, change the B to a T and the E to an F, so 150BMPE88R54 becomes 150TMPF88R54. For supply pressure under 90 psi (6.2 bar), the M is changed to an L.
Can the displacement figures in the selection guide be used for 2-stroke or gasoline engines?
The guide says its figures may be multiplied by 1.5 for 2-stroke diesels and doubled for carburated gas engines. For hard-starting engines or adverse conditions it recommends stepping up to the next more powerful starter.
What does the S suffix mean on an ST900 starter part number?
Every ST900 starter ships with an exhaust elbow, and adding the letter S to the part number orders it with the elbow removed. ST700 starters do not include an exhaust elbow.
